“Midsamr Simulátor challenges the structure of time in the fields of Slovakian countryside. Midsamr is a Slovak linguistic facilitation of midsummer, a yearly semi-pop-culturalized pagan festival primarily celebrated in northern Europe at the end of June. In Podhradie, the Simulátor aims to make such stiff conceptions of linearity unimportant and honors the present in-between the curtains of the steam of life. However, of course the pickles need to be prepared in time and according to the traditional recipe, just in case the poor Simulátor faces challenges as the winter comes.

According to rumors the cucumbers are planted on Marko’s. Grandma knows. although will not share such hereditary information.

Sauna, which will be a central part of the Simulátor, is not straightforwardly comparable to pickles in such a sense of tradition – however, the nordic tradition of getting pickled in the steam will be continuously celebrated at Podhradie. Apart from picklification, various performative events will take place.

The central structures of the Simulátor are built during the first week of July and are made to last forever – the performances take place between 7th and 15th of July without a concrete timetable.”

“Midsummer Service is an interactive performance created by the guest artist, Sonja Vainionpää during her week-long residency in Pazite, Slovakia. Inspired by Finnish midsummer traditions, the active/passive performance functions as a helpdesk that provides support in matters traditionally seen as vital, such as love, leisure and labor. Midsummer Service includes a menu from which anyone can choose a fix – the selection of Sonja’s healing remedies are based on the qualities of paganic midsummer magic, Finnish folklore and the hectic contemporary society.”
